First Newsletter

Welcome to our first newsletter.
Some of you may be aware Julie and I have purchased the Nelson Caravans business off Paula at the beginning of February. I do not know where the past 5 and a half months have gone.
A bit about our background, both Julie and I are Nelson born and bred. We have two great girls, both have left home so we are now starting to enjoy the empty nester lifestyle. I thought once the children left home, our expenditure was going to get cheaper, I now know the days our darlings were at home was the cheap part.
Over the past 23 years both Julie and I were part of the Nelson Bays Motor Group, representing the Holden and Nissan Franchises. After 23 years in the Motor business it was time for a new challenge for us both. The Caravan business opportunity come about by chance and the sale happened reasonably quickly.
I find the caravan industry very rewarding and enjoy talking to travelers who pop in for a chat about their travels, and first time caravan purchasers about to start their camping experiences and the experienced trading their current vans for new options.
Having owned a Swift 580 Challenger, I was confident in the caravan and the value that the Swift and Lunar product represented.
My commitment to our customers is honesty, customer service and integrity. I have learnt so much in the last 5 and a half months but acknowledge there is still so much to learn. I am very fortunate for employee Matt as he has such a wealth of knowledge of our products.
We are also stockists of Isabella Awnings that are a quality Danish product. We also stock Wineguard satellite dishes, Evoke and RV Media TV’s, Thule Bike Racks and front load E-bike rack carriers, and Alko Chassis parts, so it is always worth a call for what you are looking for.

Finally, we will endeavour to keep this newsletter interesting and informative. If you have ideas for the content, please email us.

Happy travels!
Regards, Vern, Julie and Matt

It is important for your warranty validation as per your Swift and Lunar manuals to have a yearly service to keep your warranty valid. This is also a good time to check to see if there are any software upgrades required. Feel free to call me on 021 802 710 to book your caravan or to discuss.

If you are planning to store your caravan over the winter months here are some handy hints:
  • Open the safety drain valve (yellow handle) next to water heater (under the seat) and leave open.
  • Run pump for a short time until the water is expelled.
  • Drain under floor tanks.
  • Fully open all taps and shower mixer and leave open.
  • If your caravan is covered or under cover plug in your caravans mains to ensure to keep your battery in good health, or do a system shut down.
  • Check your battery acid levels. If necessary top up with rain water.
  • Use your caravan’s step to slide your battery onto as this is roughly the same height as your battery box (be careful as the batteries are quite weighty).
  • Make sure the gas bottle is turned off.
  • It is always a good idea on a sunny day to open doors and windows to air your caravan.
  • Check your caravans wheel studs. Believe it or not this is quite a big insurance claim area.
Call in anytime. We are open Monday to Friday 9.00am to 4.30pm, and Saturday 11.00am to 2.00pm.  We look forward to seeing you.
